How about an article on th eCanon F1, the original model. My favourite 35mm camera, I have two of them.

My favourite films were Kodachrome, and Tri-X at 1,600 ASA.

Added. Can’t believe I forgot this camera can do half-frame. Square format is really nice tho, which is what I remember it for.

It was my second Lomo cam! Loved shooting it. Square format was my favourite. May need to update this with a “bonus” Diana mention.

The ultimate half frame camera is the Lomography Diana mini, and I will die on this hill. Yes, it’s extremely crappy, but it’s also brilliant and allows for double exposure and endless panoramas. And square images (though then you no longer save on film).

Film is a wonderful medium, so glad it’s still around.

It’s quite simple why I would rather shoot on film and with a half frame camera.

I’ve been doing it since I was 16, only 55 years ago, and I bought an Olypus Pen half frame camera, in Gibraltar, with my first wage packet. It has, sadly, gone the way of all things as I use a Nikon SLR these day, but it would be wonderful to get back to 400asa and black and white film again… as I used to develop and print my own as well. So many good memories.

So many I’m interested in but I think next I’ll try out Lomo 400!

I shoot film because I feel like I can visualize what’s happening with the light inside of the camera body and on the film itself. Being able to understand what’s happening and relate the final photograph to it helps me with composition and contrast. Also, as somebody above said, each shot is meaningful and tangible; it’s not something you can undo.

That’s so true.

First colour film in over a decade by a major producer who isn’t Kodak! Nice. What are you thinking of shooting next?

Nice! Kinda wish my first camera would’ve been film. I grew up in the 90s and early 00s, so it could’ve been, but instead, I mostly shot digital.

Limitations can indeed be freeing creatively. I also found that having fewer shots to curate is a lot easier on my mind.

I still shoot digital, but shooting film especially after so many years on digital only feels like a get to closer to the photography. It kind of feels like I’m starting fresh again, and I get to do that again which makes me so happy. I get to experience being new to something I love so much. That’s powerful.

I just shot my first roll of film (Harmon Phoenix) — I really enjoyed it not only because I love the look but because I found myself thinking more about the shots as opposed to being a bit more willy nilly when I’m shooting digital. It allowed me to get shots that were really special and also be more present in the moment! I can’t wait to shoot my next roll!

I am new to shooting film and I love it, I actually have an Ektar H35N and I think it’s a fabulous camera — being half-frame reduced some if the anxiety I feel about getting the perfect shot, I snap away and feel delighted by many of the results. I’m not commenting for the competition, but sharing because I hope someone else gets a chance to enjoy film. If I win this accidently, I’ll give the camera away!
